Give it a go – don’t be afraid and don’t give up

I have always wanted to learn new skills. I never wanted to be a couch potato and always wanted to go to work and enjoy my life. I knew that the only way to do that was to learn. Sometimes I have found things difficult but had to keep at it as my granddad says ‘practise makes perfect.’

I did an internship with Project Choice for two years. During that time, I did work experience at the Sage Gateshead doing customer service where I met the public and enjoyed working there. This experience really helped me with my self-confidence which I needed for my next working situation at the Freeman hospital. I trained in medical records and then passed the interview to become an Admin support clerk.

This has changed me dramatically. I have matured a lot and am a lot more independent I can now work quietly on my own work without distractions. I now say that I do not do problems but I do solutions! I feel more confident and assertive when I am alone and have to deal with others. I now like to ask questions and I am not nervous . I am lot happier and I take a great pride in my appearance. I always tell everybody outside of work how much I love my work!

The Project Choice staff were outstanding – supportive and always understanding. My work colleagues have always supported me especially my manager Rob and my mentors Abbie and Beth. I have made a lot of new friends and am always meeting new people. I would like to encourage anyone out there to give it a go and don’t be afraid and don’t give up.
