Government continues to roll out Universal Credit following the election

11 May 2015

The government has announced that Universal Credit (UC) will be available in jobcentres across the country by Spring 2016, and has most recently been implemented in Richmond, Kirkwall, Lerwick and Stornoway.

Over 64,000 people have already made a claim for UC, and the Department for Work and Pensions have confirmed that the new benefit is currently available in 260 jobcentres across the UK.

Iain Duncan Smith commented that: ‘Universal Credit is bringing welfare into the 21st Century by restoring fairness to the system and making work pay in a modern labour market’.
