OBE for NIACE’s Development and Research Director

2 January 2013

NIACE’s Director for Development and Research, Carol Taylor, has been awarded an OBE in the New Year Honours list for her services to adult learning.

Much of Carol’s early work took place in Derbyshire, where she was the Director of Derbyshire’s literacy initiative – Read On Write Away! The groundbreaking organisation launched by the County Council in 1997, achieved national and international acclaim for its innovation and appeal to learners of all ages.

Carol then moved to the Basic Skills Agency in London where, as joint Director, she merged the organisation with NIACE in 2007. She is a national expert on basic skills and family learning.

Carol Taylor OBE, said:

“I’m amazed and really pleased to receive this award, which reflects the value of learning especially for those who are taking the brave step of coming back to learning as an adult.”
